The Dr. A. F. Edwards Trust Awards

It’s never too early to begin building your personal legacy. Did you have a life-changing experience at Zeta Psi Phi Lambda that you would like to share with future Zetes? Maybe you were the recipient of a scholarship and would like to pay it forward? Zeta Psi offers several options for you to make a gift to the Fraternity or to the Zeta Psi Phi Lambda Doc Edwards Scholarship Fund.

The Trust was formed in 1966 with the donations of Zeta Psi elders as gifts in memory of Dr. A. F. More about the Trust Awards

The Henry N. Anderson Scholarship Award

Henry Neff Anderson graduated from the University of Washington in 1949. During his undergraduate years at the university, he was an active member of the Phi Lambda Chapter of Zeta Psi Fraternity of North America. His hometown was Aberdeen, Washington, where he grew up the son of a well-known lumber family. During and after his schooling, he worked in the family business, first for Twin Harbors Lumber Company in Portland, Oregon and then for many years for the Hope-Princeton Lumber Company, in Hope, British Columbia.

Henry always remembered fondly his experience at Zeta Psi Fraternity where he formed many lifelong friendships that he maintained throughout his life and until his death at age 68, in September of 1993. Henry was a close personal friend of Jack Graham, also a Phi Lambda Zete of the same era, who made several trips abroad with Henry, as well as to Henry's home in Nassau, the Bahamas. Jack recalls Henry, "as a big man in stature with a quiet way about him and a dry wit that understated and amused". Today, Henry is survived by his son Brian, who lives in Vancouver, British Columbia, and by his two brothers, William D. Anderson of Aberdeen and Duke Anderson of Olympia, Washington.

Henry's initial bequest of $50,000 was to the Dr. A.F. Edwards Trust a tax qualified educational trust formed many years ago by Dr. Edwards, in memory of his deceased son also a member of the fraternity. This bequest is now being used by the trust to sponsor the Henry N. Anderson Scholarship Award. It was Henry's wish that these monies should benefit and encourage the scholarship of good Phi Lambda Zetes, all around undergraduates who embody the spirit of the Zeta Psi Fraternity of North America.

The purpose of the award is to provide funding for the benefit of undergraduate students of the University of Washington and Zeta Psi Fraternity who have demonstrated outstanding scholarship, financial need, and citizenship.

The Bruce Boyd Award

Bruce Denton Boyd graduated from the University of Washington with a Mechanical Engineering degree in 1969. He was a member of Zeta Psi Fraternity, Phi Lambda Chapter, pledge class 1965 and served as House President 1968- 1969. He continued his education at the University of Hartford in Connecticut and completed his graduate studies in Finance.

His career experience was with General Electric Company in Plainville, Connecticut, Midwest Electric Company in Mankato, Minnesota, and Square D in Lexington, Kentucky.

Bruce was able to enjoy his retirement with his favorite interests. He enjoyed sports, especially the University of Washington Huskies and Red Sox baseball. His other interests included coin collecting, participating in couples card groups with his wife, cooking and grilling, discussing politics, and lending a hand to anyone who needed his handyman skills.

He is remembered as having a great sense of humor and being able to make fast friends. As often as he was able, Bruce visited family and friends, many of whom were his Zeta Psi brothers. Brotherhood continued throughout his life as he maintained friendships with many of his Zeta Psi brothers until his death at the age of 70 in August 2017. Often reminiscing about his time at the University of Washington and his participation with Zeta Psi Fraternity, Bruce would share his quality life experiences and value of his House times with his family and friends. Bruce felt strongly about giving back to Zeta Psi. In 2021 it was the wish of his estate that their $50,000 donation provide an award recognizing Bruce and his strong lifetime support to the value of Zeta Psi.

The purpose of this award is to provide funding for the benefit of undergraduate students at the University of Washington and Zeta Psi Fraternity who have demonstrated pursuit of an engineering career.
